When I'm Like Them - July 14, 2025

I live in an age, when the time

I have left is in a race

with a despairing future

there is a saying, something about

the old and how they’ve earned

the right to do whatever they want

I could easily sit back, do nothing

and enjoy the days and nights

I have remaining, and yet,

have you ever seen people in walkers

and wheel- chairs become

the centerpiece of a demonstration?

the visual of those so close to

letting go of this world, fighting

for a future they may never see

is such a powerful slap to the face

of injustice that I want to do that,

I will when I’m like them - support

a just cause in the middle of

a horde of youth gathered around

and won’t that be a lift for me,

smothered by all that passion
