When is an Aftershock a Foreshock? Sept. 18, 2024

we’ve all done it here in quake country

found a sudden wabble in our walk

driven over a strangely rough patch of

pavement we hadn’t noticed or looked out

the window to try to catch that concrete

truck rumbling down the road

as the earth shakes it seems to first draw

explanations of logic and reason

I must be getting old  they need to fix these roads

these giant vehicles should not drive down our street

if it continues the shift is quick to something

much angrier  more sinister

the planet is squeezing its fingers together

balling them into a fist shaking with fury

and then we get the message

our world is quite alive

and not very happy
