peak ripeness happens a

half second before it falls

with a violin playing the last

notes of a sweet sonata

 

except it’s too quiet to hear and

my impatience pulls it off

in the middle of a concerto,

sap dripping and lay it in a bowl

 

I’ve never been one for classical music

anyway, so I stem-press frequently

to see if the song has ended

till one day it happens -

 

the final note squeezes out,

I grab a knife and get messy
