Where Ignorance Grows - March 6, 2023

every year I forget

to tell them at the Mizell

Senior Center

that’s a mango tree

in your courtyard

I don’t think they know

the surprise that awaits

just under the fruit’s peel

that the sack of sweetness

that hangs from an unknown tree

swells and drips juice in July

I bet the Hispanic gardeners

haven’t said a word

perhaps I should look for skins

on the floor of their truck

or old pits scattered under

the well-trimmed bushes

this is the perfect case

where ignorance

by not means

defaults

to

bliss
