A Grapefruit's Blessing - Jan. 31, 2024

I like to eat grapefruit

in the morning sun

each scoop from each section

a fresh blessing

each swallow

a one word prayer

after I pour the cold nectar

from the empty shell

over my warm tongue

I sit in the gold light

and wait

for the second sigh

from my lips to end

so I can jump up

and harness myself

to a new day
