A Romance of Duties - Oct. 7, 2023

thirty years together

and it’s piles of joint laundry

and a laundry list

of grocery runs

dinner prep

medical appointments

house repairs

trip planning

walking and feeding the dogs

roof discussions

furniture disagreements

carpet arguments

light bulb climb-ups

money sit-downs

and as the years shift

from duties in the bedroom

to those in every other

corner of the house

there’s something else

that sometimes needs cleaning

or if a part’s broken

requires replacement

when hungry is fed

if needy helped

if lonely held

we’ve got a relationship

we’d like to stand

the test of time
