All Leaves are not the Same - Jan. 1, 2022

a few hope to be colorful memories

pressed onto the page of someone’s life

others wish to see the town

or at least visit the perimeter

of the yard they grew up in

some look for children

to have fun with

those that believe it’s all over

die where they land and face

the funeral rake that pulls

their bodies into a mass grave

or wait to be cremated

not that they have a choice

being leaves without dreams
