as I wait to turn left
at one of the slowest
left turn arrows
I watch a raven pace
back and forth along
the top of a billboard
left wing hanging down
like the dishwasher
whose door won’t stay up
its buddies
perched in their lookouts
stare helplessly like me
as the red taillights
blink off the car in front
and the long slow arch
of a left turn begins
each driver leans their head
into the curve like a bird would
on the wing banking left
did you know there are
three times more accidents
from turning left than right?
which makes me wonder
if there are statistics on risky
flight patterns for birds?
and what is it about
going “right” that just
sounds better anyway?
