Blame the Steps - Aug. 29, 2026

I’ve been told I need to swing my legs
more, thousands of times more,
to match the amount achieved
before a busy life became lazy
frankly, I get bored passing the same
bushes and palm trees, same
rocks and sand, sometimes even
the same faces and I’m sorry
the dogs always seem infatuated,
exhilarated with these walks
for them the world’s made one rotation,
people and dogs have passed, liquid
molecules squirted on branches, boulders,
things dropped or buried in sand
subtle changes are fresh news
with their bright eyes and busy noses
today has replaced yesterday
this old path is a brand-new earth
I’d love to do what they do,
look at the world, interested
in the shifts it’s made,
each time I tread this path
and wag my tail
with a little more enthusiasm
next time we meet
