is it ever too late to switch

your favorite color?

 

I’m sliding from green to teal,

         the shade of a kelp forest

         the hue of a fern dipped in water

         the edge of green mango touching the sky

 

I’ve left that avocado lime color

no longer happy just being a leaf

in the wind after it was knocked

off a branch by a blue rain,

 

the two landing on the ground,

seeing each other for the first time,

laughing like old friends
