like horses through the open gate

that sprint into the morning sun

to reach fresh grass in a far field

we arrived in a big rush

worked and worked hard

grew fatigued and when

the hour came with

a sunset on our faces

we turn and start the long

drive home heads down

glazed eyes single file

inside well-worn lines

the hypnotic wander of the mind

easy ahead single file

I guess we all like to return

on a well-worn path

anything to help

cut the miles

off the thought of home
