The Friend who Needn't Speak - June 28, 2023

the smell of basil

lingers on my fingers

a raspberry on my tongue

I’ve been working around

the garden and look

for a place to rest

one can forget time

under the shade of a tree

on a warm spring day

it insists you sit down

pours a glass of coolness

offers a place to linger

I am the friend

who sits next to you

that needn’t say a word

now who else

welcomes you like that?
