Finally . . . FALL!

the head down shuffling season

finally relieved of its

scalding brand of fire

though a few leaves dare show color

it’s green that paints over eyes

bored with every shade of brown

the bluebird mornings return

air crackling with a soft beauty

days are sun-warmed shade-cooled

and evenings shift outside

for extended entertainment

time for the

nine o’clock moon

to put on his MC hat again

and the stars to

dust off their shoes

and dance
