past 75

watch our bodies shrivel

and our minds leak memories

and grind as they rust

see our lives shrink in the world

from country to house

apartment then single room

I just hope by the time

we’ve reached our last bed

we get a visit from something

we can’t see

if not love

then their cousin with a young child

playing in the lap of our heart
