you’re probably not in love

with your gas gauge

it’s not familial or friendly

more like the dotty neighbor

you buy food for who then

gets hungry and never says a word

so you keep an eye on things

but on occasion forget

rush over

and find them lying down

on the floor of the kitchen

empty house light on

at that point it’s a rush

to the store to buy a few

edibles rush back

put something in their mouth

get them to sit up and eat

and let their appetite go to town

oh and as you leave

don’t forget

to flick off the light
