little kids hug my knees

teenagers mostly get to the waist

adults press their turned heads

to my chest


I am a wooden fencepost

in a field of daffodils

a lobster in a land of clams

the earth in a

population of moons


I am Gulliver

stooping for affection


graciously given


when not hidden

in whispers
