Introduction to Poetry - Sept. 8, 2020

I imagine

Death writes the contract

and places his seal on the deal

for our new form and identity

though if it is remembered

there was a name attached

to the character of that previous shape

you might hold back your signature

till He answers this question

May I help pick out my new name?

better than the usual procedure where

mom and dad slap on a label that others

learn to rhyme to their cruelest best that

becomes our first introduction to poetry
