out of my husband’s mouth

this morning

men age into a clown version of themselves

perhaps he says that

when heads go bald

or the hair thins on top

and that desperate for a comb

ears can grow freakishly large

most butts bellies and backs sag

and that stretched skin on the face

causes frowns to look like

puzzling smiles and smiles

an open-mouthed surprise

but go-ahead you young guys

it’s ok to cackle and point

just remember some day

when you’re standing naked

in front of the mirror

the mirror will be

the first to giggle

before anyone laughs

behind your back
