Why do most religions insist over and over

your next life is the important one,

inferring this one is second rate at best

and miserably sacrificial at worst?

in other words, what is the value in toughing

out life in a broccoli and brown rice world,

when steak and potatoes, or anything you’d

ever want, is waiting in the afterlife

or much worse, suffer through an existence

of little food, shoddy shelter, a back-breaking

job – a life of nightmares – all for the same

ethereal promise

and there’s the crux of the matter -

no one has ever reported back

whether that place is a true

paradise or anything at all

for all we know it may be

a forest of broccoli

that rains brown rice

which for some, would actually

make an excellent heaven
