on beauty alone

 

no sterling intellect   famous voice

or great athlete survives on their gift

 

neither strongman nor saint

does it on their own

 

everyone needs another one

to hold and speak the word “love”

 

the heart seeks no greatness or fame

only that single thread of affection

that binds a life together

 

that keeps it from

completely unraveling
