two miles from me, a car bomb

exploded, violent, frightening,

a sound I’ll never forget

for the people in Gaza and Ukraine

where bombs drop like night rain

a single explosion is a quiet evening

and for one as far away as mine,

just a grateful sigh for the miss or

quick prayer to a protective God

while the sun after real rain

can make rainbows and fill

the blue sky with songbirds

I’m not sure they value

daylight beauty like I do

or nights when crickets, warm

breezes and golden moons

are great company

and if I’m really lucky,

a star might fall from the sky
