To Sleep, Perchance to Dream - March 5, 2026

Sunday’s church sign reads:

Clean conscience, softer pillow

I get it – vacuum out all the dirt inside

and your head will be lighter and

won’t press on the pillow as hard

even an excellent idea if you don’t

own a pillow or prefer a firm one

also, the way it affects dreams

I used to float above my town

at night when I was very young,

buoyed by a life free of stress

then for many years was chased

by monsters through mud,

barely escaping death

recently, dreams are converging

innocence making bad choices

old age taking youthful risks

my beginning and middle

weaving a final scene

I bet it’s like lots of lives

like the ones you guys have -

edited memories freely blended

and unclear how your conscience

will appear in the final cut
