So Much for Retirement - June 26, 2023

let’s see if the hamster on the wheel

ever met the rat in the maze

and joined the salmon headed upriver

you’d have my three-headed life

today though I step

off the wheel climb

out of the labyrinth and

beach myself on a stretch

of Tuesday morning sand

and a quiet breakfast

with time not invited

enjoying little bites

and sips of a world

bathed in a new sun

ever notice how a morning sun

insists you stay and linger

asks the flowers to turn your way

cues a bird for a sweet song

then another and another?

and why would you ever

leave that for a wheel

or a maze or back into water

and made to swim upstream?
