I simply close my mouth

and the mirror shows each corner

cliff-diving to the bathroom tile below

 

a shockingly sad look for emotional idle

 

then, I smile and watch the lips

return to the horizontal,

showing impartial and neutral

 

no wonder we see defeat

in the faces of seniors  

 

it’s a tug of war

gravity never loses

 

pulling, pulling, pulling

everything towards itself

 

well, by now, we all know

winning was never an option
