The Jesus Light - August 27, 2024

where Sunny Dunes crosses Sunrise Way

it becomes the entrance to

a church called Desert Chapel

and the traffic signal there

we call the Jesus Light

much of the time it remains a

clear emerald for traffic flowing

towards God’s House and remains

an over-extended cherry red for cars

who want to pass in front of it

long enough to say a number of

Hail Marys’ or Lord’s Prayers’

while tapping on the steering wheel

to break a silent commute and stare at

nothing moving into the Divine’s driveway

so to get through that juncture

my husband and I square our travel

around an adjacent block  drive up

Sunny Dunes to the Sunrise juncture

and if it happens to be red  say

Jesus loves me yes I know

for the Bible tells me so . . .

and before one more praise

comes out of a mouth
