The Stillness of a Misty Morning - May 18, 2023

Gary Hunter

how is the sun

different from a mother?

her brightness a wakeup call

to a world that lingers in darkness

unable to shake the night

the blood spilled cries

of the hungry the cold

tears from the lonely

their shaking fear of tomorrow

to live another day

we’ll need strength

to try again get it right

move forward together

not stop or go back

nor turn away or split up

to comfort heal laugh

inspire encourage

love along the way

hope lives in a bright place

peace is the campfire

dancing in a circle of eyes

perhaps an idealistic

too-principled and unrealistic

view for this world

but I do know

that sleep is sweetest

when the heart is tired
