hard heels and stately dogs

that walk halls of white marble

echo a certain opulence


where memories and dog hair

collect in corners

the maid has been

carefully instructed to

sweep up one and

lightly dust

the other


probably another method

to ensure respect

or at least awe

or mystery from visitors


who can’t help

but feel watched

by the ghost

of family secrets
