don’t lob in pickleball

you’ll lose the point

ninety percent of the time

clean the gutters before it rains

and sugar becomes the equivalent of fat

I’ve noticed this kind of meticulous wisdom slips

and hard-earned lessons yield

in a moment of surety

that tells you what needs

fixing will be fixed and if it’s

not  that’s okay too

it’s a simple trick called acceptance

that’s played on us

every once in awhile

when love leaks out

and embraces

what shouldn’t be loved
