To Kickstart a Poem - April 13, 2025

no one owns the sun

it’s a free gift to the world

wrapped in a bird’s song

I lay my notebook

on a sunlit table

clean up the backyard

for a half hour then

pick it up

two pages have curled edges

like the sun’s been fingering

the paper, pondering what

poem to write

or maybe she’s holding it open

for an approaching cloud

to kick start something

after all, can anything truly

write something remarkable

about itself
