Watch a Tree Grow - June 18, 2023

yeah well with microscopic eyes

and a bit of digging you could watch

roots gather food run them up

tributaries that become one great river

flowing north as cells hitch rides

get off go ashore give birth

build a home branch into a village

before cities appear in the canopies

those residents get the best views


so no even though

construction and move-ins

are so fast there’s no wait list

you still can’t see a tree grow

because that society is so small

from our view it all seems slow

relaxed easy shade-lovingly slow


the reality is it’s a 24/7 no-break

assembly line without vacations

or travel and stuck with neighbors

you can only hope are not

from hell
