We Have Grain Moths - June 17, 2024

somewhere in the kitchen

that come out at movie time

when the TV is the only

candle in the room

 

they cross in front of the screen

and add a realistic touch to

creature movies  haunted houses

old dusty cellars and attics

and late-night porch scenes

 

or the one we saw last night

of a kid concealed in a closet

in his poorly lit bedroom

as a moth flew in front of

 

the villain who paused and

happened to follow its flight across

the room to where the boy

was hiding and flung open the doors

 

while I with folded newspaper 

took off after that moth 

so gifted at hiding

and never leaving a clue
