there on the sidewalk

it’s just ants descending

on a dying beetle

though it could be people

at a Best Buy sale

something about going in

for the kill after the prey

has been cut down

and for those bleeding bargains

or an easy discounted meal

a frenzy occurs

an innocent need

turns murderous
