back straight and chin out

in the mirror of fresh hopes

and a spritz of newly gifted

perfume or aftershave

for a few it will begin

a changed decade

an elevator ride to a new floor

or a stair climb with lighter

more practical shoes

well   at least Happy New Year!

to feather up and try new wings

who will earn a closer look
