An Ode to Something - July 13, 2023

how about the dull

half-stick of butter

in the back of the frig?

praise to its first delicious swallow

with Christmas brown bread

and its last melting one

on July 4th corn bread

a salute to the hands that churned it

applause for the Holstein that birthed it

to its chin-shining enjoyment

with undivorceable popcorn

to its sunny color happy flavor

and hot-footed dance in the frying pan

a toast to a memorable half year

and good luck for the other half

still stuck to the holly-themed ceramic dish by memories

already turning rancid
