love can be taken anytime

grabbed in excellent lyrics

off their backs or bellies

if your stroke is silky smooth

those lines are in oversupply

unlike the meatier ones

they hold in their jaws

or lock between their paws

those they won’t let go

until the sight of closed eyes

and flattened ears

turns them into pillows

when you can slip in a hand

and steal the toy’s joy

a dream’s desire

or a bone of honesty
