Homemade Yoga - Dec. 7, 2023

I used to watch my grandfather stretch

while sitting in his favorite lounger

he’d curl over his knees and touch

his toes reach back and skyward

and twist left then right his comb-

over flopping back and forth

unable to resist gravity

I remember laughing quietly

at the whole scene

now since my own bones and joints

like to go on strike

I have my version of homemade yoga

which I do as religiously

as mass is done by good Catholics

being much more careful

to not shift my head

too quickly

when changing directions

and avoid being the butt

of my own joke
