at least a dozen hugs 

and kisses every day

 

face to mug praises that

place him up there like

Gulliver to my Lilliputian

 

and occasional discussions

of egalitarianism – that every

dog deserves to be loved as much

as humans - though I’d always add

he’s the secret favorite in my heart

 

is there much difference between

a human kiss and a canine’s

tongue swipe?

 

both leave a residue of love

 

though I admit to using a sleeve

for the ones delivered

with too much ambition
