Iced Tea to Pond Water - Sept. 26, 2023

I slip into my favorite shorts

kick off my shoes grab the

cold drink jiggling with ice

flop onto the sofa

pick up the notebook

and strike that poetic pose

face gazing out a window

pen poised above sun-streaked paper

then I remember I forgot

to pay the insurance bill and charge

my desk and start clicking buttons

then out the window i see

three fallen mangoes rush out

and pull them inside to safety

the basil plant near the back door

looks wilted so I tilt the watering can

and look for others that need a drink

the water reminds me that

the pool chemicals are overdue

and head to the garage

then back to the pool

diversions over I plop

back down where I started

shadows a bit longer

the iced tea now pond water

as the afternoon slips away

I pick up the pen

and what becomes the last

thought for the day?
