Never Forget to Splash a Heart - Sept. 15, 2023

if it was just me in this house

I’d ditch the pool and patios

plant dozens of trees and add

two benches – shaded and sunny

near the waterfall and pond

make it the only opening

in a forest for visitors

a desert oasis for birds

butterflies poets painters

ponderers pilgrims

and I would huddle in shadows

and write of the faces that come

the curves of relief shine of eyes

describe the shapes of relaxed hearts

dipped and laying in the sun

by the way never forget to splash

a heart that’s drying

we all know that sometimes

they need to lighten up

and laugh
