find solace here in the desert

where stars throw the purest light

the moon is easy to talk to and clouds

offer to take you away with them

others come for its unbounded desolation

and big swallows of darkness

and will need a night of purging

to cleanse a regret-filled life

they’ll want to save some tears

for dawn’s ruby light to plant

their second chances then quickly leave

for the searing sands shift with

winds that spin you around

and flash floods of emptiness

pose an ever-present danger

especially for those who walk

the dry channels of their memories

with their heads down and

no idea where they’re going
