during war

funerals can’t wait

the dead are quickly buried


she won’t be able

to sleep on his grave

‘til things settle


how they loved

to snuggle at the park

spread out on the warm grass


so she'll wait for

next summer in the cemetery

when she’ll be dying


to hold him

as close as

she possibly can
